Option 2) Kestrel 4000 series - for short term (24 hour to 7 days) wind speed data logging we recommend the Kestrel 4000 series to remotely monitor wind speed at your site, before purchasing a wind turbine. Please refer to details below, then click relevant links within text.

Kestrel 4000 with wind vane

Kestrel 4000 anemometer or Kestrel 4500 anemometer (with wind DIRECTION) mounted to a Kestrel Wind Vane. This unit is left installed on a pole, working as a remote data logger. After a week or so you can retrieve the Kestrel anemometer and download the data in TEXT format for review and manipulation in a spreadsheet package.

The Kestrel 4000 series anemometers will store 2000 data samples. The user can pre-set the sample rate. A good example would be a 10 minute sample rate - which willprovide well over 1 weeks wind data at a reasonably high sample rate.

Batteries - please note. This is a total remote solution that requires NO MAINS POWER. The Kestrel 4000 series works on CR2032 batteries x 1 and AAA batteries x 2. The average battery life is approx 300 - 400 hours, that's approximately 12 - 16 days of data collection. We advise recovering the unit once per week and changing the batteries on each recovery. Rechargeable batteries may be used, but the life span of these is quite variable, so the customer would have to test this themselves.....
